Trooping the Colour is one of the UK’s most iconic ceremonial events to mark the official birthday of King Charles III, which this year saw 1,350 troops participating in the military parade on Saturday, 14th June in London. Following the recent success of the 80th VE Day celebrations in May, Delta Live were once again entrusted by Identity to provide a Public Address (PA) system along the full length of The Mall.
With thousands of spectators lining the route, the PA plays a pivotal role in delivering emergency and public information announcements throughout the event.
To ensure that the audio was clear on the day we deployed 92 Panasonic B200 100v line speakers, rigged in pairs using custom made brackets, on 46 flagpoles spanning the entire 0.93km length of The Mall. These were all powered by amplifiers positioned in five remote locations, with signals transported by over 2km of analogue multicore cabling. The control was managed through a mirrored pair of Digico SD10-24s to ensure reliability and redundancy.
As The Mall is one of London’s busiest areas it presents unique challenges. Often packed with visitors from early morning until the evening, we needed careful coordination to rig and test the system without too much disruption to the public in the build-up to the main event. Additionally, the size of the event footprint meant that our team’s step count that week was off the chart!
This year marked our third Trooping the Colour and our sixth time at The Mall in just three years, having previously worked on the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, her funeral and the Coronation of King Charles.
In working with the same trusted team of freelancers, now very familiar with the unique environment of The Mall, we were once again able to deliver a faultless PA system.
Huge thanks must go to the team at Identity for their continued trust, Pylon One and Power Logistics for their collaboration and the tremendously dedicated crew from Five Star, who all worked tirelessly alongside us to make this event a success.
